Design notes
A few notes on the design of So…
Design and programming are human activities; forget that and all is lost.
My
skills at inventing and implementing an aesthetically pleasing visual design are
largely non-existant. That’s not quite the same as saying I have no
taste, so you in the back can stop sniggering. Years of interest in
typography have given me a pretty good eye for pleasing design, I
think, but presented with a blank canvas, I have
precious few ideas about how to start.
Luckily, I know people. All credit for the delightful choice of Desiderata as the display face for headings and the fabulous Circular Gallifreyan logo go to Bethan Tovey who has more design skill in her left pinky than I’m every likley to have. In fact, anything visually appealing on this site is probably her good sense not mine.
The bulk of the typographic design comes from Tufte CSS. I’ve tweaked a few things and added a few things, but only to tidy up a few special cases.
