Not iCloud photos

Volume 7, Issue 51; 29 Dec 2023

TIL: You can’t copy photos out of the Apple cloud by finding them on your local hard drive.

This post replaces a previous post.

Oh, you can. Obviously, you can. But you needn’t bother because the EXIF metadata in those photographs is incomplete. In particular, there’s no GPS metadata in them.

Selecting them in the [expletive] Photos app and exporting them gives you an option to include the locations.

I suppose someone is going to argue that this is a security feature, reducing the likelihood that you’ll inadvertantly reveal the location of your house when you post photographs on social media of all the bars of gold boullion you keep under your mattress.

But I’m still irrationally pissed off about it.
