DocBook spring cleaning

Volume 10, Issue 3; 12 Jan 2026

I dunno if it’s really spring yet, but I’ve tidied up a few DocBook-related websites.

In the course of doing something DocBook-related, I happened across the DocBook.org website and was reminded just how out how-of-date it had become. I thought I should clean it up a bit, but after a brief exploration, I decided to just start over. I moved the main site and several ancillary sites off of GitHub at the same time.

I’ve been fussing for months about how to get the DocBook mailing lists back. Quite by accident, I discovered this morning that Dreamhost, where docbook.org is managed, supports discussion lists. It took me all of about 10 minutes to recreate the lists there. Fingers crossed that doesn’t turn out to be a huge PITA for me!

The Definitive Guide and the DocBook xslTNG Stylesheets have been updated recently. Next on the list, but not urgent, is moving the schema repository. There’s one small edit I’d like to make there.

Following the closure of the DocBook Technical Committee, it’s not absolutely clear how or where DocBook development will continue, but I’m sure it will.

What do you want in DocBook v.next? Join the mailing list and let’s discuss!
